okay okay - 2008 is a long while ago since I posted my last blog - haven't had the time to keep up with facebook, bebo, swimming lessons, bike riding, walking, daily life, art exhibitions, art competitions, workshops, mowing lawns, running the lil guy from school and all the sports events - phew! I gotta sleep sometime! Oh yes and of course having lovely dinner parties and entertaining cool people!

I willcome back in here and "share" but for now - I'm needing some much deserved sleep.

Lost my voice some time last night - it came back to me after two stokey cups of loverly brewed coffee this morning (thank God)! Think a wee cold is threatening though - its this really changeable and cooler weather we are experiencing.

For now though, I'm orf to go shut my eyes!

explanation - paua stroganoff!

Okay okay - I didn't feel like talking. Before we settle in to watch the rugger tonight I need to feed the crowd so made up my paua stroganoff (Sher Style) as I call it - never tried anyone else's - in fact, I have never heard of it before I made it! tsk tsk - anyway, we are having Surf and Turf with a twist - will be putting the paua on the plate as well! Mmmm - it smells devine - and I have made it before so its not new for us. Makes a nice treat for a disgustingly wet and cold night in front of the tele'. Our guests hopefully will be suitably impressed. Must away to throw some green leaves together - hey, gotta keep plugging those greens in now. Good luck All Blacks - sock it to them Aussies!

Sunday rolls around (again)!

Can't believe its been weeks since I zapped in here! Way too many other things happening i.e., school holidays so the chance to sit down and type away is fairly limited. Especially when said five year old is requiring heaps of my time. Hey, I enjoy it. Our day today is just gorgeous and I should be outdoors pulling a few weeks or going for a walk. Went to the surgeon the other day about my knee - and yup dh was correct - its cartilage and I need an MRI andthen perhaps a small op' that should rectify the problem and then I'll be bounding again along the pavement until the other knee disintegrates (and I'm told they come in twos)!!

I have been painting a fair bit - loads of ideas that keep coming way too quickly for me to keep up with them. However, in saying that I'm perservering with seascapes again - mostly because they are my passion - they are forever in my blood and there's just no denying it. I'm also hooked on abstracts - of course tones of nature are always abound.

I will load some images a bit later on but thought I'd update this site this morning before I get my butt outside for more serious events of the day.

Time - where the hang does it end up?

If we could talk to this computer and it just took the information and processed it so each site I was in didn't require me to sit here and stare at the computer and type heaps of words and upload pictures etc..... would I get more work done in a day? No doubt something else would come along and I would procrastinate even further.

My wee guy is ill at the moment so I'm doing a lot of nothing at present. I did however manage to paint a little yesterday - and today I'm going for a mega walk because the weather is so wonderful (unlike yesterday)! I will however wait till dh comes home from his physical activity of the day (swimming) before I do any of that. I am allowing myself about 10 mins on here and then I gotta move. This is of course if I don't have to get up and go fix lil fella a cool drink to soothe his sore throat. Thank God he doesn't get colds and virus's very often - in fact, I think this is only his 2nd ever. He's a healthy kid mostly - and he's lapping this up. He heard what the doc said yesterday about laxing out on the sofa watching tv! He didn't need to be told that twice.

My studio is looking a little full so am gearing up for the big exhibition (when, I don't know) but I'm having one. Am just getting enough work together first off so I can then present to a few galleries - will begin with my own studio opening/exhibition me thinks and will go from there. Gotta have the first ever showing of my work here on my own whenua. Then again, I might make the effort and approach Gisborne Museum and Art Centre - and I have already spoken with one other gallery in Gissie and they keen to have a squizzy at my work. I want to have at least 40 pieces to be proud of first and I'm only half way there - so long as its prior to 2009 I'll be happy!

I've gone back to seascapes/landscapes and even flower paintings - wow - can't help myself - nature calls and I run with it. Looking forward to the opportunity to knuckle down and actually finish a work. I'm not posting any half done pieces here on this site any longer - actually, will only post the ones I'm not thinking of exhibiting.

Am looking forward to hopefully making it to Wellington this year for the NZ Affordable Art show - I'm still in the process of working on 3 artworks for this...... one is complete but there's two are still a "thought" in my head. I will see how the piece I am working on pans out - something a little different for me but am enjoying the process and the time its taking to get from one brushstroke to the next. I am "feasting" on this one - can't keep my eyes off it - plenty of running up and down the stairs. Oh there's my niece on IM - best go and say hi - that's another 10 mins gone!

Another Sunday rolls around

and this chickydoo has been way busy. The lil guy had yet another birthday party to go to so dad took him and left me alone with my scrubbing floors and finishing off two art pieces that I am totally rapt with (and that takes a lot believe me). So, I can now introduce "Beyond the Red Matrix" and also "Viva la Fiesta" - and don't ask me why I called the latter that but I just felt in a very light hearted mood I guess and the name just came to mind. A very playful piece. The Red Matrix took some time to complete because I ended up using mixed media (rice, sand and other "stuff"). Its a huge HUGE piece of work and hence the amount of time it took I guess.

Not much else happening on the home front - dh and I went and purchased about 21 native hedging plants yesterday - they are just gorgeous - the neighbour helped dh to plant them this morning and we have an instant hedge now between them and us. We all get on really well so have made room for a little pathway that we can scoot thru carrying our loads (beers, wine and whatever is needed for the bbq)!!

This next week should be fun - I intend to do five days of walking and may even get into a little swimming also. Been a bit slack this weekend and have over indulged (yet again) with vino at the neighbours place (hey, we were celebrating the lil girls birthday too of course)!!

Its over for daylight saving and I'm already feeling pooped and its only 5.09pm! Sure don't feel like eating dinner - perhaps everyone else is the same.

Will come back when there's something else to report. Am sure there is other stuff but its just "stuff" so won't bother. Till next time.....

Wednesday and cannot

believe that I'm back in here posting a new one already! Must be getting the hang of my new time management plan! I have decided to "share" this blog with the rest of the world - well, from my email list - I'll let them decide whether or not they want to peruse the latest offerings from the East Coast of NZ or not. I'm hoping that they'll leave all the old posts and just begin here - hey, I was new to this but think I'm catching on fairly quickly. I used to "dribble" away sending pages and pages of correspondence to penpals many years ago - this is a bit the same except the postage is cheaper and if I make a mistake I can always just go back and correct or better still - delete it!

I have given myself 15 mins to belt out these few lines and then I'm off here and have to be upstairs at the easel hoping to complete my Beyond the Red Matrix artwork.

My day began with the fiasco of getting five year old dressed in his swimmers (for lessons) - preparing his brekkie, lunch, morning tea; making sure all the homework stuff was in his bag - remembering also to put in the other pair of swimmers and towel in case they go swimming at school. His bag weighs a ton and yet he prefers to carry it himself (Mr Independent)! The homework is already becoming a bit of an issue - I mean, he's into play time when he gets home - wants some tv and here I am giving him milk and cookies and then its - c'mon sonny let's go do it now coz you'll have all the rest of the time to watch tv and play with toys and the little girl next door before bathtime. Phew! I'm outta breath just writing about it. Anyway, mornings are not the best - I hate the b' mornings! My dh used to bring me a nice coffee to bed and I would leisurely drink it. Now, I'm up and atom - showered, have the exercise gear on (and yes, bought new stuff to make me really inspired and looking good out there on the streets)! oops - I digress. ......and I am literally running (and this is like 7am)!!! I must ask other parents if they are like this at their houses - mind you, we only have 1 to get ready - I see a lot of other folk at the school with 2 and 3 little ones. Bless them!

DH took Sam to swimming lessons (its "their" thing) although I love watching him I have to have at least just one day where I can actually sit down with my wonderful, endearing cup of black brewed coffee and enjoy it. (Hey, I have cut down - it used to be 2). It takes about 10 hugs and half a dozen smooches before the lil guy is ready to depart for his lessons. After my caffeine fix its off for my trek to the school and back - only about 8 kms all up I think so for now its only a short one. the goal is to walk 10 kms at least 5 days per week - and oh yes, the neighbour has loaned me her bike. Yeehaaa - went down the hill on it the other day and lil guy was skiting - he did a 360 on the gravel - thank God the shirt he was wearing took the brunt of it. I was having kittens up on my bike with brakes screeching - all the brakes - shit, I don't know how to ride a bike properly - but am getting the hang of it really quickly. I saw Sam get the "jelly wobbles" and then he bike flung in one direction - Sam in the other and the spin began - wow, he was in the throes of a really huge wail by the time I finally managed to get my leg over my bike (oh yes, and stop the bloody thing)! So, he wanted to carry on to the shop though - tears and all. The icecream at the other end was more appealing to him than limping home with his grazed ego and his bruises!

Meanwhile - my dh (Don) is having a cool time swimming his lengths every morning (for now at least). We're just beginning to enjoy the freedom of having the lil guy at school for all those hours. The gardens are looking cool; haven't planted up a vege plot yet because my raised garden beds aren't built yet. Trust me to want to have curves! Never want to have anything that looks like anyone elses! Nah - its just that our house is full of shapes and so just want to keep it looking like the rest of the place. I'll upload a pic one of these days. We were sad yesterday - the boat was sold - there goes our fresh kaimoana (seafood)! We've decided to go out in a friend's boat from now on (although the boys tend to go out by themselves without me) - won't go into that one here. We can also borrow a small alloy boat to take up the coast and go diving off of it. It was a bit of a wrench though - had a lot of good times on that boat and it has fed hundreds of people with the catches over the years. So, had to have some wine last night to celebrate (although we're not sure what we were celebrating)!

I think I've had my 15 minutes for today - will attempt to get back in each day but won't promise anything. I have a museum trip with Sam and his schoolmates so if I want to do some more painting I have to scoot. More later...keep tuned - ciao

Have sent the lil guy off to his room for time out whilst I endeavour to complete (in relative quiet) another artwork. Here's the bones of it to date.....it began with me thinking about autumn and not looking forward to winter thereafter but the colours autumn gives us are just astounding - such a myriad. In fact me thinks I will call it just that! Not much to report this week - fairly uneventful. Lots of firsts though because of the new school - first soccer practice (omg I am not a good mother! Me and one other screaming on the sidelines and its only the trials!) Shoot - but I'm going to need a band around my gob b4 I ever watch any real games. So proud of my lil guy - he scored a goal - even though it was only a practice!!!! My nerves were slightly frayed though - nearly 150 kids surrounding us on a small field - wondered if they had homes to go to! Lots of parents there too with their other offspring - was going to give up wine this week for a lil while but after that fiasco at the field um, needed to have a slurp at 5pm (only one mind)!! I am doing this for health reasons - plus I'm walking again (for fitness and weight loss). Bring it on!

sure is taking a heap of time (as outlined in other post). I think I labelled the other artworks wrongly - may have to go edit that some time soon. This wee one I specifically painted for my ma who turned 75 on March 3rd. She so loves anything with red in it that I played with this for her and she was over the moon. So, doubt I will paint anymore rushes in a hurry - played out a bit me thinks. Anyway, am digressing away from this red matrix artwork... you will get to see it shortly. Its taking forever to finally be happy with it. Well, it seems that I lost the close up of it somewhere in my photography folder! Really getting miffed using about 3 programs for the cameras I have! One day will put everything onto portable disk - surely its gotta be easier than this! Need some help with organising my computer me thinks. Soooo many photographs - double/treble ups! Anyway, have a gawp at the latest and greatest. I have the Blue Matrix up in Auckland and am really chuffed about that (at Bruce Mason Centre) and its for sale folks - go get an original for a cheap price. Must away - been here too long today - but will return before the next five months is up I promise!

this site. A bit slack of me I reckon. Life has become very very busy and at least I'm grabbing a little piece of quiet (or thought I had - my wee man has just spat the dummy coz I won't take him to the beach)! Darn it.... might have to scoot from here very soon.

Loads has happened - have painted oodles of new artwork and am in the midst of a major work and am truly just not happy with it - looks like one of those pieces that takes months to achieve the result I want. Oh dear, now dh has arrived also. Truly I will get to complete a couple of sentences I promise myself!

Colour me Jazz is a series I am doing - I am up to about number 4 - (I called it Pizzazz) - they are going out the door fairly quickly - although this one I intend to hold on to. It looks good in my entranceway (have moved it). These colourful pieces are a combination of me listening to the sounds of Lenny Kravitz and others and being taken away by the moment - its just me, my music and my paints - terrific when I get to spend time like this locked up in my new studio.

has published his book "An Old Man's Pleasure - An Anthology" and I have to say but WOW it is truly a work of art. I was not "in" to poetry - although I used to occasionally write lines of my own once upon a millenium ago. Hal's work is exquisite and the bookstore here in town where he initially took the book in its draft form were impressed with the work lil ol' me had put in. I edited and tweaked and made suggestions and Hal was really rapt. He's sold a couple of hundred books since the launch (and that was in September). I have a further 90 poems and stories regarding the great bush, hunting, huntsmen, notorious coastie people that never knew they would ever feature in a book - I need to spread the word regarding this book and the poetry because it really is a great read. Once begun you can't put it down. I have cried, have laughed and have really been touched by this emotional and yet very worthwhile book. Hal Hovell is a very shy, reserved, conservationist and keeper of many many stories yet to be told - he is also very capable of reciting whakapapa (Maori geneology). So, I hope this exposes him a little to the outside world - this book needs to be enjoyed outside of our small area. (Cost is $35.00 (NZ) per copy. Inquiries welcome.

Its once again been way too long since I dropped by and added some words and images. Plenty has happened.... I completed my Dip in Social Work (although still waiting for the final sign off on my last paper - dreading it because it was the most difficult work I had to endure - bearing in mind I did not have an encouraging time at my fieldwork placement. anyway, putting that to one side. I have been painting heaps - selling a few. My new studio is still being built as I type - its looking AWEsome to say it mildly. There's gonna be a whole heap of creativity coming out of that part of the house. It has to pay its way somehow so the artworks are going to get a price hike. Take a peek at some of my latest and greatest - they are much larger than I would normally attempt and they take oodles of coats of paint. am hooking into some cool jazz music at the moment and wow, what a difference it makes to my mood and my artwork. I can feel the tempo, melody and its very whimsical - which is what the music was doing to my emotions at the time. Very groovy I think. There will be more of the same because I also think this latest work(s) shows my true personality. (am basically a fun loving, over eager, happy, confident person but sometimes I can also be quite reclusive and quiet) - yeah, right my husband would say if he read this! Anyway, I need to go help dh paint the exterior of the studio... final coats are being put on.

An update from the Coast....

Wow - so much been happening in this neck of the woods since my last dribble. Yup, I know, slack bum but life takes over sometimes. spring is upon us coasties and the weather is just drop dead gorgEous. Plenty of blue skies and sunshine - but of course, we all know, we will still be given a final dollop of really cold and wet stuff - we always get this false spring (as my dh calls it). He should know - he's seen enough of them! (tsk tsk). We are in the process of adding an extra storey on our place - lots of builders, plumbers, blockies etc that come and go - I liken it to a finely tuned orchestra (that is, when they are here)! amazing just what goes into building - I have never really appreciated what these blokes to. I just make the tea and scones! Nah, I am right in their faces these days because I truly am impressed by what they do. Takes me away from my art though. Speaking of which, the new addition is to be my studio so I better keep my big mouth closed and not fuss too much - otherwise my dh will want to convert it into a bar (not that I mind that also). My thinking is that upstairs can be utilised for whatever - so long as I get to have my easel and paints and a gorgeous view of the pacific ocean to inspire me. Come 5 pm I put all that stuff away and out comes the chardy!

I guess I should add in some of my latest... the artwork on here is way old and needs replacing. I have been a little stuck on my fencepost - my cousin already has her dibs on this one - even chosen what wall it should go on so I better not disappoint her. My Dip in Social Work is over (I think). I handed in my final assignment last week and haven't heard whether or not its a pass - oh puuulllleeeeze let it be the end! Three years and I am so over study and all that mumbo jumbo I had to pull together to make sense - and some of it still doesn't. In the real world I know that a lot of the words I slung together are just that - words. I have worked among some that wouldn't have the foggiest what I was on about - and that's the staff! The clients were so much more on to it. Anyway, I don't wish to be a social worker - my dream (one day) would be to be a youth counsellor.

Well, no good wasting a darned good day - I will go pull some plants outta my garden - feel inspired to create a new one and to clear away some rocks etc so the builders can stomp around without injuring themselves. Will take some snaps soon and post on here - then whomever wants to have a sneak preview can.

Oh - I didn't sell anything at the NZ Affordable Art Show this year - and I ended up selling a couple after the Womans Art event. I have today donated a Poppy Power painting to aid CANTEEN here on the Coast, and my artwork I donated for Art Aid Trust was also sold ($500) towards charity. I would love to know who purchased that one, I keep a record of where my pieces end up (not that they will always stay in the one place). Have to wonder if any other artists do this. I keep records of everything - even the hours the builders etc are here! Mmmm, my dh thinks I'm a nut doing this but hey, I'm allowed to be!

Onwards I go otherwise there will be nada done today!! Ciao

another Saturday rolls around...

Today I swam 50 lengths in the Olympic sized pool - only stayed in for an hour so feel fairly happy with my achievement (not bad for someone who couldn't swim to save herself only a couple of months ago)! (patting myself on the back here). Delivered two of my artworks to the exhibition venue for Queens Birthday weekend Womans Art in Gisborne. Looking forward to viewing all the other entries - mine are shown here (i.e., if I remember how to upload a pic)!

Spent today with some friends who were looking after their dying father. He hasn't long to go but felt that it was the place to be today (all 3 of us mooching about). I made a huge pot of watercress soup and Johnny (the soon to be departed) ate at least half a bowl of it. We are forever hopeful that he will survive but he is becoming very weak. From a really vibrant and funny, comedian type person to a frail, weary and oh so thin man - good ol big C strikes again. We all thought he would die of alcohol poisoning (he's been drinking solidly for years). We'll cruise on back there tomorrow to see if we can be of any assistance. At times like these its nice to know you have friends around to support - and I've told the family that if they want us to go away then that's fine. I think they enjoyed the company and the joke we were sharing and of course they especially lapped up the watercress soup (esp' coz Ingrid keeps burning everything she cooks)!! Tsk tsk - had to put that in.

I may end up painting tomorrow (Sunday) - feel the urge to create something spectacular and large and more vibrant than the last two. Received my new book from Amazon.com and am sooooo happy - as I am too busy to go to workshops and learn from other people I have to rely on books and all that reading and viewing wonderful art pieces. I still do not know what I prefer painting. Am looking forward to using some various other texture based mediums - may have to wait until I give up work though.

Am getting tired now so will skip off to bed (crawl more like) and think about that lovely feeling of weightlessness in the swimming pool - man, that was such the best part of my day today! (oh and delivering the artworks to the Lindauer - can sign off on those two for now at least). Nite nite

me! Well, here it is Saturday already and we have already been partying (4 yr old has at least) - thank God I'm home and its all quiet and peaceful - McDonalds is not my most favourite of places BUT, boy wonder had a great time and I'm glad about that - early to bed! No painting for me today - thought I would wander about in here for a little while - then its off to go collect our dinner in town - yay - no cooking. Mothers Day tomorrow and I wonder what my gems will have decided to do for me. I don't want pressies but it would be nice to go out to lunch/dins or just be together for the day. Not much happening - may call back in a little later....

had to call on in here and let everyone know that I'm finally back at work! Still have occasional head banging headaches but the prescribed meds are working. Managed to paint (finish off) a piece and am really pleased with it. Kinda reminds me of the way my head has been feeling for the last week! I sold my NZ Art Guild Master Theme piece for $60.00 and I'm really pleased with that because it was auctioned for way more than I hoped I would get for it. Am continuing with the theme because I like the use of all those loverly colours. Check it out in my images......

I wish I wish has had a good going over...... there are sometimes artworks that just sit idle for a while because I just cannot bring myself to parade them anywhere but in a dark corner of the room. I always loved the colours in this piece BUT the flower head looked so ball like and it just didn't do it for me.....its only slightly better now but perhaps I will have yet another inspiration and add/delete something. Perhaps I should just throw it at Trademe for $1 reserve!

and another day off work for me. With infected sinuses I sit here staring at the screen hoping like hell my head will clear enough for me to actually enjoy having a day off and DO something other than sit here. LIke, for instance - painting would be great. Once I flick the switch on this pc then perhaps I will get something done. Ain't it a pain being ill? Only good thing is that the drugs the dr. gave me yesterday are actually working. She also gave me leave from work until this Thursday which is just fine by me. Lil guy has gone to kindergarten (such a big boy now he's all of 4 years of age) and dh has gone swimming (bugger) - I just love swimming. Am up to (or was) 32 lengths in the olympic size pool. Want to at least get to 50 - what that is in kms I just don't have a clue.

Loads happening with the whanau at present and they need my assistance. for today though they will have to just do it for themselves! Why people just can't talk to each other anymore I don't know! Look at me.... talking away here to myself! How sad is that? Time to scoot - will attempt a little painting - have an exhibition coming up so need to do some "smallish" artworks. What a challenge!

Now I know why so many folk are getting addicted.

First day blogger!

Here I am finally - catching up with the world and am now a "blogger" - will hold off any opinion just yet. Anyway, welcome everyone (or no one) to this place in cyberland. Its one of those pristine autumnal days here in Gissie and I hear the waves crashing on the shore as I sit in my cosy office. I should be painting OR doing something other than being sat here BUT have had a migraine now for the 3rd time in 3 days and I can't go take a nap because I might miss my doctor's appointment if I happen to fall asleep!

I will fill in a little more as I go along - but for today I'm outta here. Looking at this screen doesn't have the best affect on my poor head! I'll return when I'm feeling better.
